GCSE Results

Ballard GCSE results get better and better!

Ballard School has achieved a 93% pass rate of five A* to Cs – an improvement on its outstanding 91% pass rate in 2009. High fliers included the Head Boy, Grant Jenkins, and Head Girl, Flo Simpkin, who both achieved A / A* in double figures!

Headmaster, Alastair Reid, said: ‘I am immensely proud of the fantastic achievements of all of our pupils. As a non-selective school, Ballard’s close-knit family ethos, small classes, wonderfully dedicated staff, supportive families and holistic emphasis has again ensured that pupils of all abilities have excelled beyond expectations. Our pupils now go off to their Sixth Form providers as young men and women who can hold their heads high ready to take on the challenges of the next stage in their lives. They have brought credit to themselves, their families and their School – and we, in turn, cannot think more highly of them all!’

The 93% pass rate (91% in 2009) for five A* to C passes compares extremely favourably with the national average of 69% whilst with 90% (88% in 2009) of these five A* to C passes including English Language and Maths, Ballard far surpasses the national average in what is regarded as the ‘gold standard’ by the Government. Our number of passes at A* and A grade is also very creditable – some 29% (27% in 2009) of all GCSEs taken compared with 22% nationally.

Subjects achieving a 100% pass rate (grades A* to C) were English Literature (with 65% at A*/A), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Religious Studies, Expressive arts, Drama, Home Economics and Art. In English Language 97% gained A* to C grades (nationally this is 64%) and in Maths the figure was 96% (with a national figure of 58%). Nationally girls are out-performing boys but at Ballard the statistics show them performing equally well.

Ballard outperformed all the other non-selective state and independent schools in our area, as the figures published in the local Press have demonstrated. This is clearly a school which enables pupils to perform to the very best of their ability and, in many cases, to exceed expectations!
