Design Technology
At Ballard School Design Technology gives students the chance to work with food, resistant materials and textiles. At key stage 3 students spend a term focusing on each material, making high quality products. At key stage 4 GCSE Home Economics (Food & Nutrition) is offered as a GCSE subject.
Years 3 to 6
Technology in Years 3 to 6 is a progressive journey through structures, mechanism, motor control and encompassing a range of materials from paper and card to plastics. Included also is textiles and food looked at in a way that is interesting to the pupils. All projects are researched designed and evaluated both by the pupil and the department. In all our work there are strong cross curricular links and pupils may find themselves building Tudor houses or making puppets to link with course work in History and Geography.
Years 7 & 8
This is basically a foundation course to gain experience of Graphics, Design and Machine topics and challenges.
Year 9
