Design & Technology

From being part of the team that won the junor section of the New Milton Pedal Car Grand Prix to competing at the annual Big Bang Science Fair, Design and Technology at Ballard is a thriving activity for pupils of all ages with a wide range of activity from welding, jewellery making and carpentry to drag racers, boatbuilding and metalwork.  A well equipped DT lab is the focal point for a hive of activity and creativity which includes a laser cutter and full CAD facilities and 3D printing.

The Ballard Creative Engineers is a group with ages between 10 and 16 that are involved in a wide range of projects involving design, construction and production of problem solving items.

The school is also a leading participant in the CREST young engineer awards at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels and regularly wins awards at area and national level.

The school participates in a number of other STEM activities including the Ballard Marine Challenge for schools and boatbuilding in our custom boatbuilding shed.
