Academic and GCSE Success

At Ballard, we believe academic excellence is personal. With a proud track record of GCSE success, excellent value added, and pupils regularly achieving top Grade 9s each year, we celebrate what happens when high expectations meet individualised support. 

This year, Ballard pupils achieved an outstanding average value-added score of +1.38 grades across every subject, meaning pupils, on average, attained more than a grade higher than predicted from their baseline assessments and surpassed last year’s exceptional performance. With +0.5 considered the gold standard, an incredible 60% of Ballard pupils achieved an average value-added score of at least one full grade across all their subjects.

Alongside this remarkable progress, Ballard achieved a 94.5% overall pass rate, with 47% of all grades awarded at the top levels (7-9). More than a quarter of all GCSE grades were awarded at 9 or 8, while 12% were awarded the coveted Grade 9, more than double the national figure of 5.2%. Among Ballard pupils, 39% achieved at least one Grade 9, 57% secured a Grade 8, and 79% achieved a Grade 7 or higher, reflecting both exceptional attainment and outstanding progress across the cohort.

Whether it’s taking additional GCSEs, sitting exams a year early, or creating space in a pupil’s curriculum for 1-to-1 tuition, we shape academic pathways to stretch and support every pupil. 

Progress is closely monitored, and intervention is timely, so we’re always one step ahead – whether a pupil needs an extra challenge or a helping hand. With subject-specific raising attainment sessions, lunchtime clinics, academic mentoring and structured support throughout the year – including free revision sessions during holidays – our teachers are dedicated to helping pupils feel confident, capable, and in control. 

We blend traditional teaching with innovative technology like Seneca and Tassomai, and prepare pupils and parents alike for the exam journey through our partnership with Elevate Education. Pupils also benefit from guidance on effective revision both in form and during year group assemblies.
