We are looking for exceptionally talented pupils who show passion, dedication and resilience as well as skill, knowledge and aptitude in their chosen disciplines. Scholars must also demonstrate an overall commitment to engaging positively in school life.
Scholars may apply for a single discipline Scholarship – Academic, Art, DT, Music, Performing Arts (Dance, Drama, Musical Theatre), and Sport. Or chose two of these specialisms for the Ballardian All-round Scholarship.
All candidates must submit an application form, including a letter of application from the candidate and supporting evidence for the chosen specialist discipline(s).
We accept applications from current pupils and those who are registered for entry into Ballard between Years 7-10. For those who would like to apply and aren’t yet registered, please contact our friendly Registrar team.
Please note that there are only a limited number of Scholarships available each year and there is a shortlisting process. Candidates will only be invited to the practical assessment days if it is clear from their application that they meet the minimum criteria set out for each discipline in our policy. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a practical assessment day in February 2026.
If successful, candidates may receive a small discretionary discount on school fees, alongside entry into the Laureate Programme (more details below). They may also benefit from additional Scholarship opportunities.
For September 2026 Scholarships, the deadline is 5.00pm Friday, 12th December 2025.
“The principle behind our Scholarship awards is that they enable Ballard to attract and reward exceptional candidates who have a talent and on-going passion for particular areas of School life. Our Scholarships reflect our holistic approach to education and allow us to celebrate pupils’ outstanding abilities in a variety of subject areas. This approach is reflected in the design of our Laureate Programme. Understandably, we do expect the best from our Scholars and look to them to act as role models and remain committed to their specialist disciplines throughout their time at Ballard. We continually monitor and evaluate our Scholars’ performance and enjoy watching them thrive at Ballard.” Andrew McCleave –Headmaster.
We are also delighted to introduce an exciting new initiative for current pupils in Years 7 to 11: The Laureate Programme. This programme is designed to recognise current pupils who embody the ethos of Ballard. It is not based solely on attainment or academic profile, meaning every Ballard pupil can strive to be selected for the programme by demonstrating sustained holistic engagement, intellectual curiosity and a strong commitment to co-curricular excellence – upholding the Ballard values.
