Dulcia’s Story

Hi, I’m Dulcia, and I’ve been at Ballard since Year 3. I can honestly say that this school has shaped so much of who I am today. What I love most about Ballard is the ethos – it really feels like a genuine community. Everyone looks out for one another, and there’s such a positive, encouraging atmosphere that makes you feel like you truly belong.

I’m so grateful for my amazing peer group and all of the teachers who go above and beyond every day to support us. Whether it’s in lessons or outside the classroom, you always feel that they genuinely care and want you to do your best.

One of the best things about Ballard is the huge range of extra-curricular opportunities. I’ve been lucky enough to represent the school at ISA and NFA athletics events several times, as well as in cross country. There are fixtures almost every week, from hockey and netball tournaments to swimming galas, and the PE staff are just incredible. They don’t only support us in school sports but also help us get involved in local clubs like Lymington Netball and Mudeford Phoenix Football Club.

I also love the creative side of Ballard. I’m part of the choirs, and we’re performing at the Royal Albert Hall soon, which is so exciting! The school productions are always such great fun. I’ve been lucky to play Baloo the Bear in The Jungle Book and Elsa in Frozen. The encouragement and teamwork from everyone really helped me grow in confidence.

And it doesn’t stop there – there are so many opportunities across all subjects. For example, I took part in the Townsend Warner History Competition, which was such a great experience and really inspired me to learn even more.

I’m not big on going away, but the trips that I have done here has made me confident when travelling. There’s loads to do so you’re never bored. We went to Disneyland Paris, which was amazing, PGL on the Isle of Wight where we did loads of outdoor stuff, and Normandy in France where we had to actually speak French, and test out our language skills. It was nerve racking but I’m glad I got the opportunity to do this. Even the day trips to London were fun – just hanging out with friends and seeing new things.

Overall, Ballard has given me so much – confidence, friendships, and countless memories. It’s a place where you’re supported to achieve your best but also to be kind, creative, and confident in who you are. I’m so proud to be a part of this community, and I honestly couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
