BallardArts is the beating heart of our busy, thriving School. Recognising its importance to pupils’ academic growth, wellbeing, and future skills.
Our purpose-built Performing Arts Centre hosts spectacular, professional quality productions every year ranging from specialist productions for our Prep-Prep, Lower Prep, Upper Prep and Senior school sections as well as biennial whole-school productions. In addition, we stage an annual Nativity, carol concert, summer showcase, music and singing recitals (120+ performanes), live band performances, scholars’ showcase alongside numerous outside engagements.
Our latest whole-school production of The Wizard of Oz saw the biggest single production Ballard has ever staged, with well over 200 pupils from Years 2 to 11. In addition, a large team of staff and alumni collaborated in the process from its conception a year ago to the performances we are staging this week.
Performing Arts at Ballard isn’t just about being on stage, pupils are able to get involved behind the scenes too in a plethora of tasks including; set and prop design, hair and make up, sound and lighting, costume design and stage management.
The success stories from our Preforming Arts programme are manifold: from the cool Year 11 pupil encouraged to audition, despite being ‘completely out of his comfort zone’, who loved it. Our Matildas, anxious young girls transformed into stars through mentoring, encouragement and a sense of belonging. The reluctant singer who found her voice, in the dark, at fireworks, to the astonishment of her friends.
However, it’s the story of a typical boy, Lewis, Year 7, that highlights how extraordinary BallardArts is. Read his story here.
Performing Arts has been instrumental in the lives of so many of our pupils.
